J and I had been friends for about 10 years when we started dating in January of 2007. Can't recommend this enough! What an awesome thing to know someone so well--the good, the bad and the ugly--and still want to be with them all the time! But I'd have to say the biggest factor was finding someone who loved God, too. What an incredible difference this can make in a relationship. Deeper and more meaningful than I could have ever imagined to have someone on the same path as you. Besides that, I found someone who loved adventure as much as me, who could not only keep up with me but give me a run for my money and who (thank you, God!) could put up with my insane type A personality. He likes things clean like I do, cooks, cleans, takes care of me, sometimes lets me take care of him :) and helps keep me on track (and on time!). Here's some pictures of J and I, in no specific order:
In January of 2008, J flew his mom out from Texas to California, and took me up to the Bay to visit my family. They asked my dad for my hand in marriage, and he gave us his blessing. It was a great trip, and our families finally got to me. :) This wasn't the official proposal, though. J was planning on surprising me with that later. So next month, on February 24th, 2008, we were just finishing up a weekend trip to Sequoia National Park. We had fun playing in the snow and getting to see the giant trees. On our way out of the park, we wanted to visit the General Sherman Tree, largest living tree in the world. This is what it looks like when there isn't any snow:
There was so much snow, that we were actually standing above the fence line when we hiked over to it. J asked a hiker to take our picture while I waited at the tree, and seemed to be taking his time. When he came up to me, he dropped down mumbling something about his shoe, and came up on bended knee with ring in hand.
I said yes, of course. What a perfect proposal! Even though I knew it was coming I was not even expecting it at that time.
The ring... Beautiful!
A cool view of the General Sherman. We want enough kids to be able to all hold hands and make a circle around it. :) We'll see...
